Madhubani art is an art form practiced in Madhubani district in Bihar. Traditionally practiced by women, it is an art form that has been passed on from generations. It was initially made on mud house walls but now is made on paper and other objects and sold as a handicraft.
While I was researching on Madhubani, came upon an artist Mahasundari devi. She created left the purdah system which was quite prevalent in that time and took an initiative to create a cooperative society of artists to promote madhubani art. Madhubani art is said to have produced a much needed income to many women in rural India.
